Inlays and onlays are used to mend larger cavities and to repair damage to the back teeth, which have larger chewing surfaces. Back teeth present a unique set of challenges when it comes to cavities as the fissures can often be deeper. This can then lead to food getting trapped more often and more easily.
Onlays are very similar to inlays and are used to treat even larger chewing surface areas. They can also be used to repair a cavity that has appeared in the central part of the tooth, as well as tooth cusps which are the raised points on the tooth.
