It’s also good to start getting children used to the idea of going to the dentist from a young age. In this way, taking care of their teeth and mouth hygiene regularly will become second nature to them as they grow up. This is just one of the reasons why we endeavour to provide as warm and welcoming an environment as possible for all our younger patients at Summerfield Dental Practice.
We advise you to bring your child to the dentist before they turn one, or once their first milk tooth has come through, whichever comes first. After this, we recommend dentist visits every six months. This is in part to help with their oral hygiene, but it also helps reduce the likelihood of them developing a dental phobia.
The most important thing is to start regularly brushing from an early age. Even with babies, wiping down the gums after a feed can help prevent tooth decay. Once teeth begin to emerge, you should brush teeth twice daily with a smear of fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush. This not only helps keep teeth clean but will get children used to the sensation of brushing their teeth.
We are pleased to offer appointments for your children at times that are convenient for you including after school and weekends.
